In most cases, the auto transport company will make arrangements to have your vehicle picked up directly from your home or business (whichever you prefer). This is called door-to-door transport, and is the most common way for individuals to ship a vehicle.
However, there are a few instances where an alternative pick up location may be necessary:
Your street does not permit auto haulers – There are a number of reasons where this may be the case, e.g. the street is too narrow, the HOA doesn’t allow large trucks, etc. The solution to this issue would be to have the auto hauler contact you when he has arrived and agree to meet you in a nearby location, such as a parking lot, where he can park the truck and load your vehicle.
You are unable to meet the auto hauler on the date of pick-up – If you must schedule the pick-up for a time when you will be out of town, or if for some reason you will not be able to personally meet the auto hauler, you can choose to use terminal-to-terminal shipping.
A terminal is essentially a storage facility for vehicles. With this option, you can simply drop your car off at the nearest terminal on the date of your convenience. The auto hauler will then pick up your car at the terminal and deliver it either to a similar terminal in the area of your shipping destination, or to your home or office.
Choosing terminal-to-terminal shipping may require an additional fee, so be sure to discuss costs with your auto transport company when scheduling your car shipment.
