What Should I Do When My Car is Delivered?

The first thing to do is to check for any damage to your vehicle. Be sure to inspect the vehicle in sufficient light, and include the roof and under the front and rear bumpers — areas that are sometimes overlooked. If damage occurs en route, drivers may try to drop vehicles off at night to avoid detection of damage.

If there is any damage to the vehicle, mark the damage on the bill of lading (paperwork provided by the driver) and be sure to have the driver sign it. Without the driver’s signature, it is difficult to file a claim for any damages. If there is no damage, as is typically the case, just sign the bill of lading for the receipt of your vehicle.

Finally, you should know what type of payment is expected at delivery. For most shipments, you place a deposit initially and the balance is due at the time of delivery. The payment due at delivery is often expected as cash or a cashier’s check. Personal checks and credit cards are often not accepted. So, check with your auto transport company on the type of payment expected at delivery.
