Should I Wash My Car Before Shipping It?

01/29/2013

While it may sound counter intuitive to wash your car before shipping it, washing your car is actually a good idea. One of the things you do before loading your vehicle onto a car carrier is a visual inspection. If your car is clean, it is much easier to identify scratches, dings and other blemishes that are on the car. That reduces the likelihood of any disputes if you identify any damage that occurred during shipping.

Once you and the driver of the auto hauler have inspected your vehicle, they will note any existing damage and have you sign the Bill of Lading (which is sometimes called an Inspection Report). Upon delivery of your vehicle, you will inspect your vehicle again and compare any damage you find with the Bill of Lading that you signed during pickup.

So, washing your car before it is picked up makes your car shipping experience go better.
