The majority of car shipping experiences are worry-free. However, problems do occur occasionally, such as damage during transit or a significant delay. Good documentation is the best way of dealing with damage. See our posts on How to Prepare for Auto Transport Pickup and What to Do When Your Vehicle is Delivered for tips on good documentation.
If you do encounter a problem and believe that an auto transport company is not treating you fairly, you should first try to work it out with the company. Auto transport companies are more likely to cooperate if they believe you are trying to be fair to them. Be reasonable, but firm. If all else fails, you can consider filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org ) in the city in which the car transport company is located. The U.S. Dept. of Transportation (www.dot.gov ) regulates car shipping companies. However, they will usually not get involved until after you have a court judgment against a car transport company (in small claims court, for example).
