Can I Pack Personal Items Inside My Car While Shipping It?

12/31/2013

Although it may seem like a smart idea to make use of the empty space inside your vehicle during transit, most auto transport companies do not allow it. You are not allowed to include personal items in your car for several reasons:

  1. Personal items are at risk of being stolen from your vehicle during transit.
  2. Most auto transporters are not licensed or insured to transport household items. (Exception: Some enclosed auto carriers actually are licensed to transport household items, however, you’ll want to confirm this and discuss the details upfront before loading your vehicle for shipping.)
  3. The addition of personal items inside your car increases its weight. This may put the car carrier over required weight limits, which could result in significant fines or delays. For this reason, your auto hauler may refuse to transport your vehicle rather than risk running overweight.

So while it is tempting to include personal items in your vehicle, resist the temptation. You should not include personal items in your car in order to protect your belongings and make your car shipping go smoothly.
