How Much Does Enclosed Auto Transport Cost?

11/21/2012

Shipping your car in an enclosed car carrier typically costs 25-40% more than shipping on an open carrier. For example, you would pay an extra $200-$300 to ship your vehicle from New York to Miami.

What do you get for the extra money? Your vehicle avoids exposure to the elements plus it slightly reduces the likelihood of getting any scratches or dings on your car? (The likelihood is pretty low even on an open carrier.) The types of cars for which shippers frequently choose enclosed car shipping include:

  • Restored antique cars (e.g. classic Corvette, Ford Model A)
  • High-end sports cars (e.g. Ferrari, Porsche)
  • Luxury vehicles (e.g. Rolls Royce, Bentley)

However, any type of car or light truck can be shipped via enclosed car if you are willing to pay a premium.

Most car shipping companies offer enclosed as an option. If you are shipping a classic, high-end sport car, or luxury vehicle, you may want to choose to work with a company that specializes in those types of vehicles.
