Can I Fill My Car When Shipping It?

01/15/2013

Shipping an empty car, then paying another company to ship your personal items may seem like a waste of money. However, there are good reasons that most auto transport companies prohibit the inclusion of personal items or have a 100 pound limit. Including items in your car when shipping it can cause a number of problems:

  1. Items can be easily stolen from your vehicle interior or trunk while the car carrier is parked.

  2. Most car shipping companies are not licensed or insured for transporting household items. So, they may refuse to transport your vehicle until the personal items are removed.

  3. Additional items in your car can put car carriers over weight limits. This puts car shippers at risk of significant fines and delays. Your driver may require you to remove all personal items or choose to not transport your vehicle rather than risk running overweight.

So, resist the temptation and make other plans for shipping your personal items to your final destination. Of course, there is no need to empty the glove box or remove the ice scraper when shipping your vehicle, just don’t add anything extra to your vehicle.
